Truffle hunting for hotels and concierges: choosing an experience for your guests

In Suze-la-Rousse, La Truffe française offers a three-hour workshop with dogs searching for truffles and a tasting. The individual reference price is €99 including tax; groups of up to 40 people receive a quotation. Language, private arrangements and date are confirmed before booking.

What the traveller wants to experience

A guest curious about truffles may want to taste them, meet a grower or see how they are found. A hunt chiefly addresses the last two interests: the dog searches the ground, indicates a spot and the handler intervenes if a truffle is located. Visitors watch the work and ask questions. A tasting follows this discovery; the three hours cover the entire workshop.

This is a real search with an uncertain harvest. Present it as an encounter with the handler’s work without promising a number of truffles or a basket to take away. If the guest only wants a quick tasting before another appointment, ask what format could suit them: their available time does not shorten the advertised workshop.

Allowing three hours within the itinerary

The duration starts at the workshop meeting time. Add travel from the hotel, the return journey and guest preparation. A train departure or dinner reservation immediately afterwards changes the available margin. Transport, accommodation and a full meal are arranged separately; they are not included in the workshop.

An illustrative choice, not an actual booking: a couple stays for two nights and has half a day free. A hunt can fit if travel and timing are compatible. For a family, count every child in the total and provide ages relevant to the visit. The maximum is 40 people including adults and children.

A past visit that shows the setting

Our report from 16 December 2025 shows a private session with Pascale, Lala and guests among the oaks. These dated images let you show the setting and the dog’s search to a traveller. The guests afterwards shared a glass of Le Trésor de Fripon white wine. This account describes that session; your guest’s programme and tasting are agreed for their own date.

Season, walking and language: checking suitability

Black truffle hunting follows the winter season and maturity. March sessions depend on end-of-season conditions. Enquiries can be made year round; an off-season programme is agreed in advance. Visits are cancelled in rain. Clarify rescheduling or cancellation before adding the activity to the stay.

The ground may be uneven or damp: closed shoes and walking requirements need discussion before booking. Provide mobility needs, coach arrival plans and the requested spoken language. An English, Dutch or German page helps explain the offer, but the workshop language still needs confirmation. So do drop-off, parking and access arrangements.

Shared places or a private session

A few hotel guests may request places on a calendar session without exclusivity. A group wanting to be hosted on its own must request a private session. This affects the quotation and the traveller’s expectations: arriving together does not make the session private. The hotel booking brief helps communicate the requirement and check the response.

The budget to present to the guest

The individual reference is €99 including tax per person for three hours. Discounted group pricing is quoted according to headcount and programme. Add services your hotel arranges separately and identify who invoices them. For a private session, communicate the confirmed total instead of deriving a price by multiplying the individual rate.

Purchases after the hunt are optional. Truffles harvested during the session and offered for sale cost €900/kg including tax, subject to availability, with a limit of 100 g per participant and a €50 minimum purchase including tax. For example, 60 g cost €54; 50 g at €45 fall below the minimum. This purchase budget does not promise a harvest.

The tasting may include Domaine Les Hermessaines wines for adults, with an alcohol-free alternative. Bottles are sold separately. Contents and dietary questions are clarified before confirmation. To prepare the stay, use the booking brief and the message template for international travellers.

Visits in Suze-la-Rousse are by appointment only. The precise meeting point is sent individually after confirmation to those attending. Your brochure can present the town and the activity; access directions stay in the private message for the guest.
