Truffle hunting with dogs

Truffle outings for staff groups and companies in Drôme: choosing a real hunt

Plan a staff outing around what participants will actually do. Our three-hour workshop in Suze-la-Rousse includes watching the dogs search, talking with the grower and a tasting. Group arrangements, programme and total price are confirmed by quotation.

The dog searches while the group watches and asks questions

An activity described as a truffle discovery might be a meal, a shop visit or a search among the trees. Ask for the actual programme before circulating it to staff. During a hunt, the dog searches for a truffle’s scent in the soil; when it indicates a spot, the grower works to uncover it. Participants follow this search as it happens, subject to season and conditions in the grove.

At La Truffe française, the three hours also include explanations about the product and a tasting. Guests can ask how to assess maturity, store a purchase or use truffles in cooking. The tasting contents are confirmed before booking. A hunt guarantees no number of finds, even at a private session: the booking is for a workshop, not a quantity of harvested truffles.

A date for the whole group or places on the calendar

A collective staff outing brings an existing group together. You need a date compatible with transport and the rest of the day, a shared programme and one invoicing contact. Ask explicitly for a private booking; an enquiry about places does not reserve the session exclusively for your company. The quotation sets out the agreed format.

For a few employees, friends or a family who do not need exclusivity, the proposed calendar sessions may fit. The prefilled enquiry identifies the chosen date; wait for confirmation of places. Individual gift places require separate arrangements: validity, eligible sessions and redemption need to be defined before distribution. These formats are not automatically interchangeable.

Count everyone before comparing quotations

Our capacity is a maximum of 40 people, including children. An enquiry for 35 adults and eight children exceeds it even if only the adults pay a contribution to the staff committee. Attendance and the number of people contributing to the budget answer different questions. Record both during planning; do not assume a child rate without confirmation.

The individual reference price is €99 including tax for three hours. Group discounts are agreed after contact according to group size and programme. Base your budget on the accepted quotation total, then add transport and services booked elsewhere. Our workshop includes neither accommodation nor a full meal. Truffles and wine bottles are optional, separate purchases.

A staff committee contribution reduces what the employee pays without changing the workshop price. On the individual reference of €99 alone, a 50% contribution leaves €49.50 for the employee. This is a cost-sharing example, not a group discount. The funding guide explains how transport and other items can change the balance due.

The grove determines part of the arrangements

Visits in Suze-la-Rousse are by appointment only. The precise meeting point is shared individually after confirmation. For coach arrivals, confirm drop-off, parking and access to the route before booking transport. Tell us about the group’s mobility needs too: a picture of the trees does not by itself describe access arrangements.

Black truffle hunting follows the winter season, maturity and weather. March sessions remain subject to end-of-season conditions. Visits are cancelled in rain; rescheduling or cancellation terms appear in the quotation. If your event requires an outdoor activity to run whatever the weather, resolve that requirement before announcing the outing.

A private session documented in photographs

Our report from 16 December 2025 shows a private session with Pascale and Lala, with the dog searching and guests in the grove. These dated pictures help explain the nature of a hunt and suitable clothing to participants. They also give your committee an actual visit to refer to when discussing the activity.

Social activity programmes also offer this type of day. On 15 February 2026, CMCAS Gap Avignon proposed an outing combining the Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux market, a hunt at Ferme des Eybrachas, a meal and Grignan castle. It illustrates a day made up of several services. It describes neither our offer nor our customers, and its price is not directly comparable with our three-hour hunt.

A quotation you can use to open registration

Provide total attendance, two possible dates, shared or private format, and language, access and tasting requirements. A website translation does not automatically confirm the workshop language. Identify the organisation to invoice without attaching an employee name list. Confirm programme, total including tax and weather terms, then wait for the appointment confirmation after accepting the quotation.

The guide to planning a staff truffle-hunting outing provides an enquiry you can adapt for this stage. The one-page group information sheet can then circulate within your committee. For a company day including meetings, use the event programme guide: it separates our workshop from time slots and services to book elsewhere.
